EDITORIAL: A Mid-year Catch Up
Half of 2022 has rushed by and we look to a busy second half of the year that will no doubt fly by as quickly. Our 50/50 webinar series continues to attract new viewers and on 18 July we will host the third of our four-part series on Reweaving the Web of Life with Kathi Bailey and her family sharing their
intergenerational journey. On Monday 15 August, Dr Peter Whitehouse (aka The Tree Doctor) will tie up the first 3 sessions and will lead discussion about concrete next steps.
Our next 50/50 Global PIONeer Online series starting 15 September 2022 will showcase PIONeers from around the globe and will tackle pertinent issues of ageism, digital challenges, housing, attitude, and earning and learning. Our guiding principles in co-creating these conversations are inspired by Maggie Kuhn’s 5 Ms for continued, effective and meaningful involvement: Mentoring, Mediating, Monitoring, Mobilizing, and Motivating. See attached
info.
PION will be present at the UN’s High Level Political Forum in New York on Wednesday 6 July through Bruce Frankel’s contribution on «Action at the Local Level». In May, I presented at the UN's Expert Group Meeting in Paris to review SDG 4 (Sustainable Development Goals) in preparation for the New York meeting. The goal of SDG 4 is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for
all.
We’re happy to be working with two new young interns and find this intergenerational experience more and more rewarding.

Flying Colors for Tash’s Dissertation on Ageism
Natasha Miller (aka Tash) seen here with furry friend Winston, interned with PION last year and the experience changed her orientation both academically and for her future career. Imagine our delight to receive this email she addressed to Jan Hively and me:
“Just a very quick word to thank you once again for all your support during my dissertation. My grades came out today and I’m thrilled to let you know that I achieved a 1st class on the project! I’m delighted, as is my family! Without you and the Pass It On Network, I would never have discovered such a passion or been inspired in such a way, so thank you for being involved in this journey! Tash”
She chose a very original angle on ageism for her dissertation for her degree at Stirling University, Scotland, and entitled it “It might not be too bad” – An exploration of Intergenerational relationships and their impact on self-directed ageism, juxtaposed with community group influence. Read Tess's attached dissertation.

Meet new Intern -
Chryztina Harding-Graham
My name is Chryztina Harding-Graham and I am a senior at Pennsylvania State University studying English and Philosophy. I’m from NYC and hope to become a judge as I have a passion for the law and human rights. Currently, I am an intern working with the Pass It On Network to raise awareness of the issues faced by elderly people and how we as a society can prepare for our own aging in the future. Through research, speaking with other organizations, and writing articles
I will increase public knowledge, as well as my own on what we can do to help the growing population of elderly people.
Meet new Intern -
Esme Edworthy
My name is Esme and I’m a student from England. I study Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol and I’m lucky enough to be able to intern with Pass It On Network. My hobbies include writing, reading, going to the gym, and spending time with my friends and family. I’ve written for one of my university’s feminist magazines, and I feel very passionately about gender equality in particular. Working with Pass It On Network is a great opportunity
for me to explore how our society can adapt to foster a thriving older population, and not just a surviving one.

What do you think about cogenerating the future?
Encore.org commissioned NORC at the University of Chicago to find out what Americans think about cogeneration — a strategy to bring older and younger people together to solve problems and bridge divides. NORC used its AmeriSpeak panel to survey 1,549 respondents, aged 18 to 94, online and by phone, in March 2022. The findings show deep interest in cogeneration. They also reveal obstacles. Generations cited include these ages: Gen Z (18 to 25), Millennial (26 to 41),
Gen X (42 to 57), Boomer (58 to 76), and Silent Generation (77 and older). Read the report.
