Celebrating Jan Hively
90 years of meaningful work, paid and (mostly) unpaid
What an amazing celebration you created for our co-founder, Jan Hively’s 90th birthday. Just read the word cloud we generated to get an inkling of the depth of Jan’s impact and how highly esteemed she is by her peers and all those who have had the good fortune of knowing her over the years. Jan
presented her epiphany to our PIONeer community on 6 January and you can see the replay on our fledgling YouTube channel.
As we step into this New Year, we wish you, and all who are near and dear to you, a very happy, healthy and constructive year. We, the PIONeers, have a very positive feeling about 2022. For me, that includes a sense of being on the lip of a tipping point in the way ageing is viewed. I hear growing affirmation that “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” More and more of us are women-and-men-in-action who are enjoying the empowerment that brings.
So let’s step into the New Year, and continue to apply our minds and experience to bring about a society for all ages.

France’s reached the tipping point with its Conseil National (auto-proclamé) de la Vieillesse #RienPourLesVieuxSansLesVieux
|
“Nothing about me without me.” France is doing it!! The fifth wave of COVID that hit France in December triggered the creation of a self-proclaimed National Council for the Old with a rallying call “Nothing for the old without the old” #RienPourLesVieux
SansLesVieux. It was like a revolt to preempt the isolation measures the Government was proposing for old age homes.
Old’Up, the Pass It On Network’s long-standing partner, and Prof. Françoise Forette, an advisor to our network and president of the International Longevity Center-France, were among the founding organizations that rallied to the call of Francis Carrier (Grey Pride), Eric Favereau (journalist, association VIF Vieux Inégaux Fous), Nicolas Foureur (doctor, founder of Vieux et chez soi) and Véronique Fournier (doctor and founding president of La Vieille).
These citizens want to shake up public policies at the inter-ministerial levels in the fields of housing, urban planning, mobility, culture, finance, and access to rights. Support is growing exponentially and with France holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the next six months and the French national presidential election coming up in April, the voices - and especially the votes - of older people are sure to receive greater attention.
We will definitely be following this inspiring development and encouraging global emulation.

Peacefulness
Gustavo Boog, a PIONeer from Sao Paolo, Brazil, continues his series on introspection and invites us, as we step into the New Year, to ponder on Peacefulness. Peacefulness, he says, includes accepting myself, with all of my potential and limitations, my light and my shadow -- accepting myself as I am and not as I wish to be. Revisit the Serenity Prayer and see his tools for designing a more peaceful life. Read here.
