Singapore and South Korea are two outstanding examples of how countries in Asia Pacific are ramping up their policies in the face of rapid demographic changes. In 2020, the plus 60
population in the region was 630 million. It is expected to reach 1.3 billion by 2050 with +60-year-olds accounting for 25% of the population. The “oldest-old” (80 years and older) will constitute 20% of all older people. While healthy life expectancy and life expectancy are rising, the prospect of living longer in good health lags behind significantly with serious implications for health care. What measures are being introduced now to make sure that society adapts to this
dramatic demographic shift? Searching answers to this question lead Pass It On Network to partner with ACAP (The Active Ageing Consortium Asia Pacific), specialists in the region, and Dialog Health to set up a top level study tour to learn more, and hence our next 50/50 Conversation on 13 March with ACAP’s President, Dr. Kathryn Braun, and founding member Dr. Cullen Hayashida. A winning PIONeer Story for Senior Entrepreneurship – South
Africa’s pilot a resounding success |
| “I had no idea I
could put my experience as a mother and housewife to work for me!” said a new entrepreneur. |
Elizabeth Isele, a PIONeer advisor, founded the Global Network for Experienced Entrepreneurship, and she is on a mission to activate a global movement that taps into the experience of the 50+ - the largest talent pool in history - to redefine the future of work and traditional retirement across all generations, cultures and geographic boundaries. Already active in Ireland, the UK, Latin America and
Australia. |
Durban, South Africa, through TAFTA (The Association for the Aged), run by Femada Shaman, has just
joined the ranks having succeeded a pilot of the Experience Incubator program developed by Elizabeth, and has launched a second group. | |
The link between Elizabeth and Femada was forged by the Pass It On Network. Since then, Femada has
developed a very effective team at TAFTA to initiate more and more seniors into entrepreneurship. TAFTA provides affordable housing and services to 1500 men and women on state pensions in Durban, KwaZulu Natal. Their motto is inspiring active ageing and, fostering entrepreneurship for people over 60 is definitely an integral part of this. |
